Durham Cricket are launching a junior Super 4s competition following the success of the senior tournament, first introduced last year.
The Junior Super 4s will replicate the format of the senior competition, which took place at the beginning of August, and will involve the most talented girls from across Durham and the neighboring counties.
The competition will give these promising cricketers the chance to play the highest standard of girls’ cricket in Durham, outside of county level.
The Super 4s will take place on Wednesday, 28 August and Thursday, 29 August, with fixtures at Lintz Cricket Club and Shotley Bridge Cricket Club.
The four teams – Hawks, Rockets, Panthers and Infernos – will all play against each other before the best two qualify for the final, scheduled for 1.30pm at Shotley Bridge Cricket Club on Thursday, 28 August.
The Junior Super 4s is the first girls’ non-club-based cricket competition in Durham and aims to link up and further strengthen the existing girls’ pathway across the county.
Marsden players Rebecca Price and Lucy Hughes will captain the Panthers and the Infernos respectively, while Ryton’s Mary Butler will lead the Hawks and Sedgefield’s Jess Weatherspoon will be the skipper for the Rockets.
The first round of games will be played at 10.30am, followed by the second starting at 1.30pm tomorrow, 28 August at Lintz CC and Shotley Bridge CC. Round three will take place from 10.30am at the two hosting venues, before the final gets under way at 1.30pm at Shotley Bridge CC.
