Despite finding movement with the new ball both Claydon and Thorp were unlucky as
despite several play and misses they just couldn’t find the edge. Brathwaite replaced Thorp from the
Finchale end and got the breakthrough as Brown on 61 edged through to Michael Richardson.
Luke Wells played some aggressive shots with a couple of edges flying through the slip cordon as he
progressed to his maiden century (243 balls, 17×4) with a nice cover drive off Claydon for four.
After reaching 103 Brathwaite got one to nip back and take the leading edge of Wells bat to be caught
by Will Smith at point. Rana Naved was the next batsmen in and from the off he was using his feet and
looking to finish the match with a few mighty blows but Brathwaite got one to move away and take the
edge and Sussex were seven down with only 15 runs left to win.
Following a loud appeal for LBW from only his second ball, Anyon couldn’t survive the third as Brathwaite got one to swing back in and have him LBW. This was also the fifth wicket for Ruel Brathwaite in a great spell from the Finchale end.
Amjad Khan was the new batsmen to join Andrew Hodd at the crease with Sussex still requiring 15 runs to win.
Hodd and Khan then patiently went about accumulating the runs and Khan guided the winning runs through point as Sussex claimed the win by two wickets.
