Durham Second XI enjoy T20 double over Northamptonshire

Game 2 – Durham 164/7 beat Northamptonshire 158/9 by 6 runs

Durham Seconds enjoyed a double T20 win over Northamptonshire at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes, with a wide range of contributions over both games.

An unbeaten 78 from Jonathan Bushnell with six sixes guided Durham to a commanding 8 wicket win in game one.

The hosts won the toss but were soon in big trouble thanks to some quick pace from Luke Robinson and Daniel Hogg who reduced Northamptonshire to 3/3.

Robinson picked up a big scalp when Ravi Bopara, playing for his new club, was done for pace by Robinson and the home side struggling at 34/4.

Nathan Sowter was in fine form again, as he picked up 2/18 from 4, while Robinson and Hogg struck with 3 wickets apiece, with Northamptonshire bowled out for 124 in 16.5 overs.

In reply, Jonathan Bushnell struck a 50 ball 78 with 3 fours and 6 sixes guiding Durham to victory, backed by 13 from Jonathan Bushnell.

Bopara and Alex Russell claimed the only two Northamptonshire wickets as Durham chased their target down inside 16 overs.

In game two, Durham won the toss and elected to bat posting a competitive 164 from 20 overs.

Skipper Ben McKinney led the way smashing a 36-run ball 62 with four fours and four sixes, while Bushnell scored a run a ball 21.

Durham did suffer a slight blip falling to 117/5 but a 34-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Mitchell Killeen and Nathan Sowter took Durham to 151/6.

Killeen smashed a 25 ball 31 with 3 sixes while Sowter added 16 from 16 taking Durham to 164/7.

Northamptonshire skipper Gus Miller fell early to Luke Robinson, but the hosts raced to 50 inside 5 overs, with David Willey departing an over later caught behind to Oliver Gibson.

Justin Broad scored 47 from 35 but once he departed to Killeen, none of the Northamptonshire batters managed to reach double figures.

Brett Hutchinson, making his Second XI debut claimed 3/24 from 3 overs with Mitchell Killeen picking up 2/29, as Durham pipped Northamptonshire by 6 runs.
