Durham second XI secure convincing 29-run victory in Hartlepool with 79* for Killeen & three wickets each for Coughlin and Drissell

Mitchell Killeen scored an unbeaten 79* before Paul Coughlin and George Drissell took three wickets apiece as Durham second XI secured a convincing 29-run victory in Hartlepool.

Visiting captain Harry Came put Durham in to bat first; Durham’s opening stand was worth just four when Jonathan Bushnell skied a Nick Potts delivery in the second.

Ross Whitfield added a further 21 alongside Coughlin before he lofted to the hands of Came off Manraj Johal’s bowling.

Johal then took his second when he bowled Coughlin for 20 with Durham 44 for three. Skipper Drissell then fell for six when trying to slog against Harris Ajaz after sharing a partnership of 15 with Killeen.

Killeen was then joined by Ben Dwarshuis in the ninth with the score 59/4. The pair put on 56 for the fifth wicket in 36 balls. Dwarshuis struck three maximums before he dragged on to Ajaz for 36 from 22.

Ajaz picked up wickets in consecutive deliveries as Stanley McAlindon was bowled first ball on the last of the fifteenth. Killeen then began to up the ante as he scored 46 from his final 18 balls.

He finished unbeaten on 79 from 47 as he smashed six fours and three sixes, sharing a partnership of 38 with Callum Parkinson and an unbroken stand of 27 with Oliver Gibson to take Will Gidman’s side to 180/7 from 20 overs.

Durham got off to a positive start with the ball; Coughlin removed Came in a wicket maiden with the visitors on 13. Gibson took Muhammed Naeem for Durham’s second; McAlindon taking both catches.

Drissell piled on the pressure, as he bowled Cian Dickinson cheaply in the eighth with Derbyshire 40 for three. Harrison Parker and Jack Carney responded with a partnership worth 63 over 40 balls.

Carney was then bowled by Drissell to become the first of four wickets to fall in the space of 10 deliveries. Coughlin took wickets in back-to-back deliveries the following over before Drissell too picked up his third, taking Parker for 57.

Killeen claimed his first scalp as McAlindon took a third catch with the visitors reduced to 121/8. Dwarshuis took his opening wicket in the eighteenth over before claiming a second on the final ball as Derbyshire finished 151 all out.
