Close, Day Three: Durham (200 & 198/4) drew with Yorkshire (415/7d; McKendry 121, Gale 74; Harrison 3/41)
A combination of rain and a stout batting performance saved the draw for Durham’s second XI against Yorkshire at York CC.
After facing a tough final day in prospect, rain washed out any chance of play before lunch.
With little prospect of forcing victory, it left Durham’s batsmen with a reduced amount of overs to bat out on the final day.
After losing both the openers the evening before, Adam Hickey & Saf Imtiaz fell to leave Durham with just six wickets in hand.
But captain James Weighell played a fine hand alongside Brydon Carse to secure the draw and keep Durham within a chance of topping the North section with one game left.
Weighell made 61* & Carse 56*, blocking their way to safety before opening the shoulders late in the innings.
Durham face the MCC in their final match.

Durham face a battle to save the Second XI Championship match against Yorkshire at York CC.
After resuming on 310/3, the hosts racked up another 105 before electing to declare on 415/7.
Andrew Gale made 74 before Jamie Harrison removed both him & Jordan Thompson to finish with figures of 3/41.
Yorkshire called time on the innings after James Wainman’s 10 from two boundaries, leaving around a day-and-a-half of the game remaining.
And Durham were quickly reduced to 41/4 & immediately on the back foot when James Weighell & Brydon Carse came together.
Carse, making his return from injury as a batsman-only, made 39 in a partnership with the skipper, who made Durham’s sole half-century of the innings.
But another three wickets left them 147/7 and staring at a huge first innings deficit.
Barry McCarthy made 41 and was supported by Gavin Main’s 17 but Durham were bowled out for 200 and made to follow-on.
Graham Clark fell early second time around before Nick Hobson followed shortly before the close of play, still 168 runs adrift of making Yorkshire bat again.

Durham’s Second XI spent a tough day in the field after Yorkshire racked up 310/3 on the first day of the Championship match at York CC.
After a run-filled 50-over encounter the day before, there was little surprise when the hosts elected to bat first after winning the toss.
And they recorded two big partnerships to take the better of Day One, Liam McKendry top-scoring with 121.
The first partnership accumulated 100 inside 35 overs before Barry McCarthy struck, trapping Ben Ainsley lbw for 57; the Irishman got through nine overs.
Mosun Hussain fell three shy of the half-century mark, caught behind off Jamie Harrison, but a mammoth third wicket stand gave Yorkshire the edge.
McKendry and Andrew Gale, the four-day skipper for the White Rose, put on 160 with the former reaching three figures.
But he could not see the day out, caught behind off Peter Chase from the day’s penultimate delivery.
Gale finished unbeaten on 54 as Durham eye quick wickets on the second morning.
