Durham Cricket are pleased to announce the signing of Scottish international Katherine Fraser on a two-year deal ahead of the 2025 season.
Fraser’s off spin has earnt her 50 wickets on the international stage at the age of only 19, with a best of 4-19 against Malaysia for the Edinburgh bowling all-rounder.
After representing Scotland at multiple youth and senior levels, Fraser made her domestic debut with the Northern Diamonds in 2023 and made an early impact as she scored 26 and took 1-17 in a three-run win over Central Sparks.
In 2019, she made history becoming Scotland’s youngest player to feature in a Women’s T20 International at just 14 years old, still holding the record.
Fraser went on to captain Scotland at the inaugural ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in January 2023, taking 10 wickets in four matches, including a key performance against the USA with 3/23 followed by 59 with the bat.
Katherine has also proved valuable at senior level, being ever-present during Scotland’s run to qualify for their first Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024, featuring four times for her national side during the recent World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
On joining Durham, Fraser said: “To be a part of Durham’s tier 1 set up for 2025 is an incredibly exciting opportunity and one I cannot wait to get underway with.
“Signing my first full-time contract is a dream come true, and I’m grateful to Marcus and Dani for making it possible especially with the exciting team that Durham is gathering, allowing me to play cricket alongside some familiar faces while equally providing the chance to learn from new teammates.
“Durham’s holistic view towards development of both this squad and more broadly women’s cricket in the North East is one of the reasons I was so eager to join the county, and I look forward to being involved.”
Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “We are extremely pleased to have recruited exciting youngster Katherine Fraser to Durham.
Katherine is a genuine all-rounder who further strengthens our batting and bowling but will really add to our already strong spin department.
“Despite being an international with Scotland, she qualifies as a local player and at only 19 this is really exciting for us, she has shone with both bat and ball for the Northern Diamonds and internationally for Scotland and she will only continue to learn and improve as a player at Durham.
“We look forward to welcoming her to Durham and supporting her ongoing journey and her continued development on and off the field.”
