Durham boys’ under 16’s will miss out on the ECB County Cup final after falling to a nine wicket defeat against Yorkshire in the semi-final.
Callum Gaffney won the toss for Durham, choosing to bat first at Norton. The skipper, though, was the first to depart as he fell in the fifth over with just 12 on the board.
Luke Symington and Robbie Bowman were out cheaply too and when Edward Burch had George Fishwick to claim his second wicket, Durham were 54 for four. James Minto and William Hampson scored 20 apiece to help Durham rebuild.
Soon enough though they were both dismissed, either side of Joe Twiddy being bowled, which left Durham 110 for seven. Ibrahim Ahmed went on to claim the wickets of Matthew Robinson and Brett Hutchinson for the White Rose, taking three overall.
Durham’s innings came to a close with the score on 127, as Edward Burch had Charlie Burdon stumped for his third wicket.
James Minto took Durham’s only wicket, having Tom Fraine caught and bowled for 18 but could not deny Will Bennison and Owen Smith who both scored unbeaten half-centuries to take Yorkshire to their target and into the final.
