Durham women set for historic occasion with opening pre-season match against Zimbabwe

History will be made tomorrow when Durham women play their first fixture in a Durham shirt – as they take on Zimbabwe Women Select XI in their opening match of pre-season.

A squad of 14 are in contention for tomorrow as preparations ramp up their Metro Bank One Day Cup clash against Essex on Wednesday 23 April.

Emma Marlow will captain the side in Hollie Armitage’s absence with the Durham skipper on England A duty in Australia – while Bess Heath and Mady Villiers are also with England A.

Grace Thompson, Laura Trotter, Harriet Robson and Emily Whiting from the Women’s Academy have all travelled and are in contention to feature across the next week.

Hazell’s side will play five games over the next eight days including two 50 over games and 3 T20s taking on Zimbabwe Women Select XI.

The squad arrived in Harare earlier this week and have spent a number of days preparing outdoors as the season edges closer.
