Durham Dynamos had a convincing 91 run over Notts Outlaws thanks to a superb 183 run opening stand from Mark Stoneman (72) and Phil Mustard who hit the season’s fastest century from just 66 deliveries.
Healthy contributions from Gordon Muchall (34) and Ben Stokes (23) were boosted by some quick hitting from Paul Collingwood (25*) and Dale Benkenstein (39*) as the Dynamos reached 310 – 4 from their 40 overs.
The Durham attack bowled with much more accuracy and aggression than their Notts counterparts and it was Chris Rushworth who was the pick, taking a career best 5-31 off his eight overs.
The top five were dismissed for 43 and only Adam Voges (74) and Paul Franks (57) showed any resistance, by which point Notts were out of the running.
Ben Stokes and Liam Plunkett picked up two wickets apiece with Scott Borthwick claiming the final scalp to dismiss Notts for 219.
Phil Mustard was named Man of the Match and Durhamccc.co.uk spoke to him at the close of play, “We had a good opening partnership which allowed to post a really good total on a pitch that was doing a bit. If we get off to a flyer it helps people down the order too.
“Rushy bowled great line and length and set us up for the comfortable victory, he should have got the Man of the Match. We played well as a team and we can go into the next Championship match on Tuesday in a positive frame of mind.”
Chris Rushworth added, “ It’s always nice to get a game but when you come out with 300 on the board you come out with real confidence when you have a decent target to defend. I am bowling well and I’m ready for a chance with the red ball, we’ve seen the wickets this year, they’ve been bowler friendly so to get a fiver-fer in a one day game hopefully reminds them that I’m there for the four day game.”
