The Dynamos didn’t get off to the best start after losing the toss and being put into field, with Phil Mustard hitting the ball up high for Matthew Boyce to take with ease off Harry Gurney’s second delivery.
Will Smith fell lbw to Gurney for 7 six overs later and Paul Collingwood added the same amount before he was caught at mid off by Jigar Naik as the Dynamos fell to 50-3 in the 10th over.
Benkenstein swept Naik’s eighth delivery to Andrew McDonald at short fine leg and was dismissed for 8 bringing Ian Blackwell to the crease to join Mark Stoneman (38*) with the Dynamos 66-4.
The scoring accelerated with Blackwell scoring 43, including three sixes, before he was caught by Gurney off Matthew Hoggard bringing the 79 run partnership with Stoneman (63*) to an end.
Stoneman, looking in confident knick, went on to reach 73 before being trapped lbw to Naik with the Dynamos 165-6.
Callum Thorp smashed Josh Cobb for two consecutive sixes before he was caught by Matthew Boyce for 17. The Dynamos were 187-7 when Mark Wood joined Gareth Breese (9*).
Wood scored just one before he was caught behind off Wayne White the following over and his replacement, Mitchell Claydon, was run out without scoring with the Dynamos 189-9 as the final man, Graham Onions, strode to the middle with five overs remaining.
Durham set the Foxes a target of 193 for the win with Breese the final wicket to fall when he was bowled by White for 11.
Leicestershire started well in improving conditions with Cobb and du Toit putting in the hard work early and giving the visitors a solid start.
The bowling powerplay brought Callum Thorp into the attack and it was him who broke the opening partnership at 72 when Cobb was caught by Collingwood on 37.
Thorp also picked up the second scalp, that of Will Jefferson, who Will Smith kept hold of to dismiss for 9 with Leicestershire 92-2 in the 17th over.
Do Toit went on to score his fifty before he was caught off Blackwell, who bowled particularly economically, by Collingwood soon after with the Foxes 117-3, signalling the start of a collapse in the visitors batting order.
They fell to 134-6 with Gareth Breese picking the successive wickets of Boyce (5), who was caught off the spinners first delivery, and White, who was caught by Thorp for 12.
Claydon was eventually rewarded when he trapped Smith lbw for 5 with Leicester 132-6. Blackwell claimed his second wicket in the 32nd over when Dixey (7) became the fourth batsman to be caught by Collingwood in the innings which saw the visitors requiring 52 runs from 51 deliveries.
Hoggard was stumped off Breese for 5 and once Gurney was caught by Smith three balls later Durham sealed the win by 37 runs.
At the close of play Ian Blackwell said, “I think the guys were a bit low in confidence after the t20 and championship defeats this week so it was essential for us to keep this roll in the Clydesdale Bank 40 going and get a win which puts us in a favourable position in the table.
“All credit to the lads, Leicestershire got off to a good start but we stuck at it. Our fielding was pretty good all the way through the game and the wicket was assisting the spinners so it was nice to come on and put the pressure on and tie them down. When the pressure builds, you get wickets and that’s what happened.”
