England Young Lions head coach Andy Hurry was impressed by the contributions of Liam Trevaskis & Matthew Potts in the recent series against India.
The under-19s faced India in a two-match ‘Test’ series before the sides faced off in a five match one-day series at various grounds around the country.
It proved a tough outing for England, who chose a young squad in preparation for the upcoming under-19 World Cup in New Zealand
They were beaten in the Test series before losing the one-dayers 5-0, including a one-run D/L defeat & a one-wicket loss in the final over.
Trevaskis opened the batting in all five one-day matches, making a half-century in the fourth match at Bristol, and Hurry commended the way the 18-year-old grew as the series continued.
“Liam opened the batting all through the series with Liam Banks of Warwickshire, and it was pleasing to see the way they both batted in the later games,” Hurry said.
“They played with positive intent and also intelligence, and Liam kept playing strong cricket shots.
“Throughout the series it’s been encouraging to see his confidence and his ability to put pressure on the bowlers grow.”
Potts joined up with the side for the final three fixtures after playing in the Specsavers County Championship match against Leicestershire.
He finished with six wickets and nearly secured a stunning victory in the final match with some tight death bowling. He added a further six scalps across the two ‘Test’ matches.
“Matt joined us late in the one-day series because of his county commitments with Durham, and he brought real energy to the group,” said the head coach.
“He really showed his skills in the closing stages of the last game in Taunton, bowling an excellent over when the game was in the balance.
“He’s a very competitive player who relishes bowling under pressure.”
Both are now aiming for a solid end to the county season to further press a case for inclusion in the World Cup squad. England’s first match is against Namibia on 15 January.
