Fenby appointed captain

Helen Fenby has been appointed captain of Durham Senior Women by Head Coach Danielle Hazell.

Fenby will lead the team into their first season back in Division 2 of ECB Women’s County Championship, starting with a fixture against Devon and Somerset.

One of the younger players in the side, Fenby brings in a lot of experience from the top end of the women’s game, having played for Yorkshire Diamonds and having been involved with England Academy.

She said: “I think Dani wants me to take a bit of responsibility with my cricket and show to other people what I’ve learned over the past couple of years because I’ve been with Yorkshire, I’ve been on an England Academy tour and I’ve learned a lot the past few years so it would be good to bring my knowledge into the side.”

Talking of the new division the team will play in, Fenby said: “As a captain I want everyone to do well in this league. Hopefully we’d finish mid-table because that would be great coming back into Division 2.”

The team’s first competitive fixtures in the County Championship will take place on Sunday, 5th May away to Devon and Monday, 6 May away to Somerset.
