Foundation launches Nordic Walking Programme

Following on from the success of Durham County Cricket Foundations adult health and well-being programme “50 Not Out” supported by Northumbrian Water, the Foundation has teamed up with County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and Get Active to launch a new Nordic walking programme

The walk launches this Thursday (16th August) at 1.30pm and will run until 2.30pm. The walk will begin from the reception of the Riverside Sports Pavilion in Chester le Street, next to Emirates Durham ICG.

What is Nordic Walking?

Nordic walking makes use of specially designed poles to enhance the natural walking experience to make a whole body exercise. Some of the benefits of Nordic walking are improved joint mobility, reduction in neck and shoulder tension and the added fitness benefit of burning 46% more calories than normal walking!

Who can take part?

The weekly sessions are open to anyone, people of all ages and experiences take part in the walks, with the first couple of sessions designed at developing basic technique to maximise the waking experience. If you can walk you can Nordic walk!

One previous participant Gina Allen

“Nordic walking has certainly improved my health over the past few months” and “gave me the opportunity to meet new people whilst improving my health and fitness”
“I certainly would recommend everyone giving Nordic walking a go! It’s a fun activity which I find helps me relax and reduce the stress of everyday life”

All sessions are delivered by qualified Nordic Walk instructors and the walking sessions cost just £1! Places are limited so will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
