Franklin names 13 for back-to-back Blast openers

Lead High Performance Coach James Franklin has named a 13-man squad for Durham’s opening Vitality Blast games against Northants Steelbacks and Lancashire Lightning.

Durham open their Blast season up with a home fixture tomorrow night against Northants Steelbacks before heading to Old Trafford on Sunday to take on Lancashire Lightning.

A bumper crowd is expected for Friday’s fixture in which Stuart Poynter will lead the team out as interim captain following Cameron Bancroft’s call up for the Australia A squad for their tour game against Australia at the Ageas Bowl, Hampshire. Bancroft will return as club captain following the Australia A fixture.

Scott Steel is included in the squad following an impressive Royal London Cup campaign in which he scored 68 on debut against Yorkshire.

D’Arcy Short will make his Durham debut after arriving in the North East last week and will be looking to continue where he finished off in last winter’s BBL where he amassed a tournament record of 572 runs at an average of 57.32, scoring four half centuries and a mammoth 122* against the Brisbane Heat.
