Free Online Umpiring and Scoring Courses

ECB Association of Cricket Officials are offering free online courses for potential new umpires and scorers.

Three courses have been made available online to give new umpires and scorers the chance to learn the skills needed to take to the field and score boxes, when the time becomes available.

The courses available include a Stage 1 Umpire course, Basics of Scoring and Basics of Umpiring courses.

Stage 1 Umpire Course

A Stage 1 Umpire course is now available free of charge. This course is the first in the ECB ACO umpire’s pathway and is normally £30 to attend the face to face to course.  This course is designed to give an overview of the basic Laws of the game and how to apply them and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. The course is an ideal introduction for new club umpires, a refresher for existing umpires and the first step for those who aspire to umpire at higher levels.

Basics of Scoring

This course is designed to provide you with all the skills needed to start scoring. The course covers the basics of scoring a game of cricket such as scoring symbols, umpire signals, dismissals and gives a helpful overview of the Laws of the game. This course would normally be hosted in-house by Durham ACO over half a day.

Basics of Umpiring

This course is aimed at club umpires who just need to know the key laws and basic field craft and those players who umpire 5 or 10 overs at the weekend. This follows the Introduction to Umpires course which is also ran by Durham ACO, normally over half a day.

Online Scoring Sessions

Sue Drinkwater ECB ACO Scorer Education Manager is also offering a range of online scoring tutorials over this period. This includes linear scoring, Duckworth-Lewis stern and electronic scoring. For more information on this, follow @RunsWktsOvers on Twitter.
