George Drissell starred with bat and ball as Sunderland cruised to a 6 wicket win over Benwell Hill at NBMS Denton Banks. Sunderland won the toss and elected to bowl as the home side posted 227/8 as the Hill’s overseas star Yash Kothari scored an unbeaten 130 from 145 balls. Drissell bowled 15 overs picking up 3/45 including dismissing opening batter Adam Heather for 68. Chasing 228, Sunderland lost two quick wickets but Drissell led the way with an unbeaten 106 from 116 balls with 13 fours and 1 six, as Sunderland secured their fourth win of the campaign.
Ben McKinney scored 38, as Burnopfield made light work of Tynedale’s 129 all out. McKinney hit 6 fours and 1 six before being stumped for 38. Ross Whitfield was unbeaten on 50* as Burnopfield chased down 130 inside 18 overs.
Burnmoor beat Castle Eden by 7 wickets at the Parklands. Burnmoor won the toss and elected to bowl, dismissing the home side for 126 in 46 overs. Mitchell Killeen bowled 8 overs picking up 2 wickets for 7 runs. Former Durham all-rounder Ryan Pringle scored an unbeaten 57* as Burnmoor chased the required runs down in 27 overs to remain top of the Premier Division.
Stanley McAlindon performed with the bat, top scoring for Tynemouth as they drew with South Northumberland at Gosforth. The Bulls won the toss and elected to field with Tynemouth scoring 273 from their 58 overs. McAlindon faced 133 balls for his 81 which included 8 fours and 1 six. Durham Academy youngster Robbie Bowman also contributed with 69 smashing four sixes and seven fours from 67 balls. South Northumberland hung on for the draw, closing on 173/8 from 52 overs.
Ollie Gibson was again in the wickets for Shotley Bridge as they beat Hetton Lyons by 96 runs in Division One. Batting first Shotley Bridge scored 281/6 as Paul Greenwell top scored with 98 backed by 62 from Reece Carr. Hetton Lyons were 185 all out in reply, with Gibson picking up 3/48 from 14 overs.
