Greenside qualify for the Junior Indoor Six-a-Side Finals

Greenside finished on top of their group in the Durham Cricket Board Under-14 Indoor 6-a-Side Competition to qualify for the County Finals.

The last matches in group one, where Greenside competed alongside Eppleton, Willington and Marsden, were played this week.

Greenside made a strong statement against Eppleton. Batting first, they achieved 102-5 in the allotted 10 overs. Greenside got off to a flying start with both openers contributing – Ross Whitfield 41 not out and Ben Horsfall scoring 30, having to retire at 25 before coming back at the end of the innings to boost the total.

Eppleton never really got going in the chase, ending on 63 all out after eight overs.

In the rest of the games, Willington took on Eppleton before facing Marsden.

Willington batted first against Eppleton, posting a decent total of 139-0 off their 10 overs. Contributions were made by Sam Thompson 25 not out, Dan Gray 27 not out, Jake Dickinson unbeaten on 26 and Isaac Fernyhough – 28.

This was going to be a tall order to chase. Eppleton made a valiant effort to get the runs, ending only 19 short to finish on 120-4, with Jake Pratt scoring 52 not out and Josh Hutchinson ending undefeated on 38.

In the third game, Willington won the toss and asked Marsden to bat first. It paid off for Willington when Jake Dickinson took out the opening bat in the first over and Marsden ended on 31 all out. The score was chased down by Willington with Will Beanland ending the game on 17 not out.

Greenside will play alongside already qualified South Shields and Philadelphia in the County Final on Wednesday, December 6.
