Greenwell, Seabrook secure Stockton victory

Durham’s Academy claimed a convincing seven wicket victory in an important North East Premier League clash at Stockton CC last weekend.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first posting a very competitive score of 231-7 declared from 57 overs, including runs from familiar faces in Tom Hewison (62) & George Harding (52). Faizan Hussain starred for Durham with the ball, taking impressive figures of 4-47 off 15 overs.

Openers Ben Seabrook and Ross Greenwell formed the bedrock of the Durham & virtually put the match out of sight with an opening stand worth 206.

Both were dismissed just shy of their centuries 98 and 94 respectively but Daniel Cooke & Harry Adair scored the few remaining runs needed as they reached their target inside 48 overs.

It cements the Academy’s place in seventh spot & denied Stockton the chance to apply pressure from ninth position.

The Northern Jets side, Durham’s Academy setup for women & girls, claimed two T20 wins over Germany Women at Ashington last Monday.

In the first match, the Jets won the toss & racked up 126/5 with a top score of 47 from Bailey Wanless with supporting roles from Bethany Walker & Layla Tipton. Germany’s reply was halted after 16 overs on 4/65, meaning the Jets ran out winners on D/L.

Second time around the visitors were reduced to just 29-9 in their 20 overs thanks to some brilliant bowling from Harriet Robson (3-1) & Eve Thomas(2-5). The Jets knocked off the runs with ease reaching their target inside 9 overs thanks to 15 from Annie Anderson & 13 from Madeline Atkinson.

A four wicket win for the men’s under-17 side at Derbyshire was not enough to keep their Championship hopes alive as they finished second to Yorkshire in Division 1A.

The hosts won the toss on the first morning and elected to bat but were dismissed for 295 from 61 overs. Harry Pierson was the pick of the Durham bowlers with figures of 3-32 from 8 overs.

In reply Durham made a massive 573-7 declared. Opener Jonathon Pears top scored with 135 after sharing a huge opening stand with Jonathon Bushnell, who made 85. There were also big scores for skipper Matty Oswell(86), Luke Doneathy(85), Mathew Adamson (51) and Alex Senior who made 50.

Derbyshire put up a fight in the second innings making 401 all out thanks to centuries from Will Hobson and Josh Lacey. Harry Pierson again starred with the ball taking 4-49 off 15 overs, but Durham reached their target of 125 on the final day with 4 wickets remaining mainly thanks to a solid 50 from Sol Bell.

In other news, Durham under-13s girls completed a comfortable two-innings format victory over Yorkshire under-11s at Farsley, while the boy’s under-14s lost a thrilling one day encounter to Yorkshire by a single run.

The women’s under-17s lost to Yorkshire by 69 runs in their 40-over match at Brandon before coming close to beating Lancashire at Darlington, falling in the end by just one wicket.
