After a four week break from red ball cricket, Durham return to County Championship action tomorrow [Sunday] to face Leicestershire at Emirates Riverside, 11am
Having been in T20 mode since mid-July, James Franklin’s side will turn their heads to the County Championship and their push for promotion into Division 1.
Victory over Worcestershire was the last time Durham were in action in the Championship, in which Chris Rushworth took ten wickets, leading Durham to victory on day four at Emirates Riverside.
The top three teams gain promotion this summer out of division 2, with Durham currently sitting in fifth place on 115 points, one point behind Northamptonshire in fourth.
Peter Handscomb and Angus Robson are also included in Durham’s 13 man squad for the first time this summer.
27-year-old right-hander, Robson, has been on trial with the club over the last six weeks after spending time at Worcestershire earlier this year.
Australian-born Robson has played four matches for the Durham 2nd XI, impressing enough to earn a contract for the remainder of the 2019 season.
Handscomb will also take to the field for the first time in the Championship, having replaced Cameron Bancroft as Durham’s overseas player for the County Championship.
It was only last month when Durham took on Leicestershire in the County Championship at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road, Durham coming out on top by 119 runs.
