Haydon Mustard made 107 for Benwell Hill in their seven-wicket defeat to Ashington. Opening the batting, Mustard held the Hill’s innings together, with wickets falling regularly at the other end after a 70-run opening partnership. Mustard was the eighth man out, facing 133 balls for his 107 and scoring seven fours alongside two sixes as the hosts posted 203/9.
Ashington recorded victory inside 36 overs, largely thanks to knocks of 48 from Jack Jessop, 69 from Ben Harmison and an unbeaten 50 from Jack McCarthy.
Jack Brassell and Will Alexander both claimed a pair of wickets in Sunderland’s victory over South Northumberland. Sunderland were put into bat and made 221 as Charlie Coulthard and Christopher Youldon led the way for the hosts with scores of 57 and 42. Alexander took figures of 2/48 with wickets of George Drissell and Robert Potts.
The visitors began well with an opening stand worth 66 before losing four wickets in six overs with George Drissell picking up Nikhil Gorantla. Brassell claimed the fourth and fifth wickets, removing top scorer Solomon Bell for 77 to finish with figures of 2/45. Adam Cragg made 45 for the visitors but five wickets shared between Brett Hutchinson and Jack Johnson saw Sunderland home by 27 runs.
Sebastian Hughes-Piñán took three wickets for Chester Le Street in their nine-wicket victory over Tynemouth. CLS elected to field first in Tynemouth and started positively, taking the opening wicket on 15 before Hughes-Piñán took wickets in consecutive deliveries as Tynemouth were reduced to 33 for five. The hosts recovered, making their way to 133 all out as Hughes-Piñán took the seventh to finish with 3/24.
The visitors made their way to their target within 23 overs, Andrew Smith made 92 unbeaten alongside Ethan Connolly who scored 30 to take the hosts to a nine-wicket victory.
