Durham’s boys’ academy beat Sunderland Cricket Club in their final North East Premier League T20 match by six wickets to top group D.
Haydon Mustard top scored for Durham with an unbeaten 77 to follow a pair of wickets for both Owen Harwood and Teddy Minto.
Sunderland elected to bat first but fell to 21-3 as Harwood took two early wickets either side of James Minto’s wicket of Daniel Shurben (14).
Christopher Youldon (38) and George Fishwick (37) shared 80 for the fourth wicket before both were quickly dismissed.
Teddy Minto and Zac Mawdsley took the last two wickets as Sunderland stuttered to finish 143/7 from 20 overs.
James Minto opened with Mustard but could only make 11 before Joseph Stuart claimed two wickets in two balls, as Darwood fell too.
Maxwell Jackson (36) and Mustard then shared a partnership worth 117 to steer Durham towards victory at 137/3.
Mustard’s unbeaten knock came from 54 balls and featured nine fours and two maximums as he led the Ds to a convincing victory with 14 balls to spare.
