Durham Cricket is delighted to announce that Haydon Mustard has signed his first rookie contract with the Club.
Mustard, 17, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, having progressed through the Durham Academy and was recently part of the Durham squad which toured Zimbabwe.
Wicket-keeper batter Mustard has performed well with the Academy and Durham Second XI over recent years, top scoring with 99 against Warwickshire last summer at Edgbaston Foundation.
Mustard – who plays his club cricket at Benwell Hill, has been part of the Northumberland pathway from 9 years old, before representing Durham from Under 16s level.
He made his first-class debut and T20 professional debut while in Zimbabwe, top scoring with an unbeaten 46* in Durham’s T20 final victory over Eagles in Harare.
The Newcastle School for boys’ student was also part of the England Under 19s squad for their World Cup campaign in South Africa, starring on debut with 41 and two catches behind the stumps in a 146-run win over Zimbabwe.
Haydon Mustard said: “It’s amazing to sign this rookie deal, it’s the start of an exciting journey for me. I found out I was being offered a deal just before the World Cup and I was absolutely delighted. I can’t wait to get out there in the summer and get going.”
Director of Cricket, Marcus North added: “Haydon is an exciting talent. He has impressed with his skills but his maturity and match awareness at just 17 has been impressive.
“He has performed well when opportunities presented with the England Young Lions last summer then into the winter with the England Under 19s during the World Cup.
“Haydon is another success story coming through the Northumberland pathway and Durham Academy.
“We look forward to seeing him develop and grow his game throughout the summer as he begins his professional journey as a Durham Cricketer.”
