Durham County Cricket Foundation is launching a free community health programme titled “Fifty not out”, on Thursday January 26 2012, at Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground, Chester le Street, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
The monthly sessions, supported by Northumbrian Water, will give participants the opportunity to take part in a choice of physical activities with people of a similar age and fitness level, and learn new skills such as digital photography, internet browsing, internet shopping, e-mail and Skype.
Sessions will begin in January 2012 and will be held once a month, and then during the summer in conjunction with Durham’s LV= County Championship fixtures during the summer months. Anyone aged 50 and above is welcome to attend, though advance booking is required.
Manager of Durham County Cricket Club Foundation, Richard Hopper, said: “The New Year is a great time to make lifestyle changes, whether it is to start getting fit, make new friends or learn a new skill.
“We’ve worked with Age UK, Durham County Council and NHS County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust’s Get Active and Healthworks services, to develop a varied programme that will suit all different interests and fitness levels.”
Jane Morland from Northumbrian Water, said: “We’re proud to be supporting the “Fifty not out” programme. We see this as an exciting venture that will inspire, motivate and raise the self-esteem of over 50’s in the region, helping to build a healthy community.”

“Healthworks is delighted to be supporting this programme. As part of the health improvement service; we are well placed within the local community to reach communities with information and support. We hope that through partnership working we will be able to raise awareness of the work of the health improvement service and how people can access services in their own areas.”
