Durham Cricket Academy youngster James Minto won the Tees Valley Cricket Awards Emerging Player of the Year trophy at the Tees Valley award evening.
The awards, which are open to all cricketing organisations in the Tees Valley region, have been hosted by the North Yorkshire South Durham League for a number of years now on behalf of Durham.
Durham Cricket legends Geoff Cook and Bob Jackson MBE were on hand to make the presentations to all the winners at another wonderful evening celebrating North Yorkshire South Durham cricket.
The awards are open to clubs, cricketers and individuals playing for clubs or organisations in the North Yorkshire and South Durham area with the presentations made annually at the NYSD’s presentation evening.
James Minto enjoyed a spectacular season at all levels. At under 17 he averaged 330, he scored 584 runs at 34, and took 30 wickets at 12 in his club’s Division One championship winning first team. His brother, Teddy Minto picked up on the award on his behalf.
He made his Durham professional debut against Worcestershire in the Metro Bank Cup, and then played against Surrey to become Durham’s youngest ever first-class cricketer, before appearing for a Young Lions Invitational team against England under 19s and then being selected for the England u19 squad now touring South Africa – and all at the age of just 16.
Minto was up against Durham Academy teammate Callum Gaffney and Joe White from Richmondshire Cricket Club.
