Jennings steals show in Player of the Year awards

Keaton Jennings stole the show at Durham’s Player of the Year awards, picking up five accolades on Thursday evening.

After a prolific season in all formats, Jennings was voted as unanimous winner of the Player of the Year award as voted for by the Durham members.

He also earned the recognition of his colleagues in picking up Players’ Player of the Year, again with a unanimous vote, and collected the Leading Batsman trophy after amassing exactly 2,000 runs across all formats.

And the left-hander added the Community Player of the Season for his work off the field during the 2016 season alongside the New Balance Champagne Moment of the Season, voted for on the club’s Twitter page.

That moment came earlier in the season as he hit ten off the final two balls to defeat the Nottinghamshire Outlaws in a thrilling finale at Emirates Riverside.

Jennings, who recently signed a four-year contract extension with the club, has also been rewarded for a remarkable season with a call up to the England Lions setup for the upcoming tour of Dubai.

Brydon Carse picked up the Young Player of the Year award after making an immediate impact in the Specsavers County Championship side, taking 17 wickets in his first year of first-class cricket.

The Bowler of the Year award went to Graham Onions after another exceptional year in first-class cricket, taking over 50 wickets in Division One cricket.

Paul Coughlin picked up the Top Fielder award for his athletic, dynamic approach in the field while Stuart Poynter celebrated his transition from Second XI to First XI by winning the Second XI Player of the Year.
