Jennings: We can complete the unexpected

Durham Jets all-rounder Keaton Jennings is backing his fellow team mates to upset the odds and overcome Gloucestershire to reach NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day.

The quarter-final hosts finished top of the South Group with 21 points to draw a home tie at the Brightside Ground.

By contrast the Jets got through courtesy of a final round win over the Derbyshire Falcons, with a slip up by the Birmingham Bears allowing them a passage to the knockout rounds.

Gloucestershire also have the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker in the 2016 Blast in Michael Klinger and Benny Howell.

But Jennings knows the Jets can upset the odds, as they have done on so many occasions in the past.

“We’re playing on Sky away from home, a couple of days on the road, it’s a high pressure match and the type these guys want to play in, hopefully this side can pull together and do something special,” he said.

“Somebody can have a bad day and that’s all it takes. If somebody has a bad day and one of our guys has a good day at the right time, you win the game.

“Having a guy like Colly backing the youngsters especially is reassuring, so hopefully they can back themselves and enjoy the experience.

“Hopefully the guys can go there and enjoy the day. It wouldn’t be the first time this side does something people don’t expect.”

The big game comes just a few days after Jennings agreed a new four-year deal at the club following an exceptional 2016 season to date.

And the 24-year-old is looking towards a bright future – starting with silverware in 2016.

“I’m very grateful I could agree terms with the club and I’m looking forward towards the next years,” he said.

“Amongst other things, I’m happy here and I’m hoping to push forward and make a career here.

“We’re still in the hunt for two trophies, starting with the quarter-final tomorrow night.”
