Jets Blast-ready after warm-ups

Durham Jets (132/4; Stokes 84*; Watt 2/20) beat NEPL XI (129/6; Mustard 53; Pringle 3/13, Rimmington 2/13) by six wickets

In the last warm-up before the Vitality Blast begins at Emerald Headingley, Ben Stokes fired Durham Jets to a six wicket win over an NEPL XI at Chester-le-Street CC.

Stokes, who is due to play in the opener against Yorkshire Vikings, smashed an unbeaten 84 off 45 balls to fire the Jets to victory.

The all-rounder is returning from a hamstring injury & scored 10x4s & four maximums to help chase down NEPL’s score of 129/6.

Former wicketkeeper Phil Mustard proved the backbone of that innings, scoring 53 off 43 balls at the top of the order.

But Durham’s bowling attack put in a solid shift, led by an economical three-wicket outing for Ryan Pringle & two for Nathan Rimmington.

NYSD XI (134/2; J Weighell 48, A Weighell 43) beat Durham Jets (132/8; Smith 36; Jeewantha 3/28) by eight wickets

In the first warm-up played at Hartlepool CC, an NYSD XI came out on top by eight wickets against the Jets.

After electing to bat first, the Jets could only muster a below par 132/8 with Will Smith’s 36 the top score.

Graham Clark (19), Stuart Poynter (18) & Tom Latham (16) all contributed but couldn’t kick on to make a big score.

The Weighell brothers, Andrew & Jonny, then came out on top against James to see NYSD home with eight balls to spare.

The former opened & scored 43, with Jonny unbeaten on 48 off 45 to see it home.
