Jets lose out in NatWest T20 Blast final

Result: Northants Steelbacks (155/6; Cobb 80) beat Durham Jets (153/8; Jennings 88) by six wickets

The Durham Jets lost by four wickets in the final of the NatWest T20 Blast against the Northants Steelbacks at Edgbaston.

Despite a valiant effort in back-to-back games in the afternoon, the Jets fell just short in their quest for a first T20 title.

Keaton Jennings struck a career-best 88, the highest score at a Finals Day as they made 153/8 from their 20 overs.

Ben Stokes made a quickfire 18 but only Jennings could beat that score as he struggled for meaningful support from the other end.

Not until Mark Wood struck a four in the final over did anyone other than that pair score a boundary, but Jennings hit his stride in a fine knock.

Three of his four sixes were struck supremely down the ground while the other came with a pull over deep backward square, his runs coming from just 58 balls.

Three early wickets set the Steelbacks back in their reply as the Jets started on top.

Wood removed Adam Rossington from his very first ball, Richard Levi was run out by a super pick up and throw from Scott Borthwick and Chris Rushworth trapped Ben Duckett lbw.

But after steadying the tide, Josh Cobb and skipper Alex Wakely put on a mammoth 120-run partnership that took the Steelbacks within touching distance.

Even when Wakely was run out following a mix up and Cobb edged behind a short while later, the pair had put Northants in an unassailable position.

And the fate was sealed from the start of the 20th over as Rob Keogh blasted a four through the leg side.

The Jets had earlier overcome a star-studded Yorkshire Vikings side to reach the final.

Stokes anchored proceedings with 56 in a total of 156 before the Vikings fell nine runs short.

Wood took 4/25 in a supreme display of bowling while Rushworth took 3/19.
