Julie Allison appointed as Safeguarding Officer

Durham Cricket are delighted to announce that Julie Allison has joined the organisation in the role of Safeguarding Officer.

Julie will spearhead all aspects of safeguarding throughout cricket in our county and will work across the entire organisation.

Julie joins the team with 25 years’ experience working within the NHS, nursery management, health visiting and mental health with the last 5 years working as a Specialist Perinatal Nursery Nurse, and additional previous work as an Estate Childcare Manager in Facilities Management.

In the role, Julie will provide a vital link between the ECB Safeguarding Team and cricket provision in the county, acting as a point of advice and support on Child Safeguarding matters and supporting the education and training in this area.

Julie takes over from Fiona Holden who has served as the County Safeguarding Officer.

Julie said: “I’m delighted to be able to join the team here at Durham and take over the reins following Fiona’s great work.”

“Safeguarding is vital in developing the sport allowing our children to enjoy and grow while feeling protected and supported in an inclusive environment. I’ve seen this at my local club and the opportunity to be a part of this across the county was one I couldn’t turn down.”

“I look forward to meeting with clubs and continuing to spread best practices, proactively building confidence in what we do and embedding the wellbeing and safety of our young players at the heart of every team in our county.

Graeme Weeks said: “We’re really excited to see what Julie can bring to Durham Cricket. The expertise she brings from her prior role in the NHS plus her previous involvement she had in her local cricket club as a committee member over the last ten years, will be an incredible asset to us.”

He finished with: “I look forward to seeing how far Julie can take us in our commitment to safeguarding and the support she can offer cricket clubs. We wish Fiona all the best in her role and thank her for her time and incredible efforts at Durham Cricket.”
