Layla Tipton takes four wickets as North East Warriors secure dominant victory over Shropshire by seven wickets

North East Warriors pick up their first win in the ECB County Cup with a comfortable seven wicket victory over Shropshire.

Warriors captain Harriet Robson won the toss and sent Shropshire in to bat at Wem Cricket Club.

Warriors started well with two early wickets as the hosts struggled to put early runs on the board, falling 20 for two. Shropshire doubled their score before they lost skipper Lara Jones which sparked a middle order collapse.

The hosts managed just 30 further runs for the next five wickets as Layla Tipton tore through the Shropshire batters taking figures of 4-23 in six overs.

Zara Collinson and Caitlin Belcher managed to take Shropshire to 96 all out in 35.3 overs; both dismissed by Olivia Miller. Freya Rook also took two wickets with Trudy Johnson and Ellie Tiffin taking one apiece.

Shropshire began their defence of 97 positively as Kate Brazier took a pair of early wickets to reduce the Warriors to 19 for two.

Grace Thompson (38) and Mary Butler (37*) then shared a match-winning partnership worth 74 to take the Warriors within four runs of victory.

Butler then knocked off the remaining runs, with Johnson at the non-strikers end to secure a dominant victory with 30 overs of the innings remaining.
