Leah Dobson joins Durham on two-year deal

Durham Cricket are delighted to announce the signing of exciting young batter Leah Dobson.

22-year-old Dobson heads to Chester le Street having enjoyed two years as a professional at the Northern Diamonds and pens a two-year deal in the North East.

A middle order batter, Dobson has made 24 professional List A appearances and 27 in T20 for the Northern Diamonds – having made her regional debut in 2021 against Thunder.

A career best of 68 not out came against Western Storm last season as the Scarborough born cricketer added to her career tally of three-half centuries.

Dobson played her part for the Northern Superchargers in 2023 – making 5 appearances for the Hundred side as they reached last year’s final.

A product of the Yorkshire pathway system, Dobson progressed through the Headingley youth system scoring a youth high of 161 not out off 81 balls in an ECB Under 17s T20.

On joining Durham, Dobson said: “I am really looking forward to this next chapter of my career at Durham.

“To represent the club in their first professional women’s team is very exciting. I knew after speaking to Marcus that Durham was the right place to develop my skills and grow as a cricketer.

“Closing the door on the Northern Diamonds is going to be incredibly sad but I’m excited to get going with a new team in a new environment and create many more memories. I can’t wait to get the 2025 season underway.”

Director of Cricket, Marcus North added: “Leah is a hugely talented cricketer, who is just getting started in her professional career, so it is fantastic news that she has decided to join Durham to continue her cricketing journey.

“She has shown huge potential for the Diamonds and Superchargers and at only 22 we are excited for her to join us ahead of the 2025 season and the start of our new chapter.”
