Durham 2XI: Raine, Coetzer, Roebuck, Richardson (c/wk), Coyne, Pringle, Wood, Shahzad, Arshad, Rushworth, Claydon, Turnbull.
The 2XI, boosted by significant experience last week consisted of eight Academy players for this fixture and once Kyle Coetzer was dismissed for 26 with the total on 50, the Durham batting never really recovered with Roebuck falling shortly after and Raine dismissed for 16 in the 17th over.
Durham were 63-4 when Coyne was out for just 3 and then went on to further collapse with the fifth wicket falling in the 24th over and another two scalps lost in a single over shortly after.
The tail wagged a bit pushing the total to 118 after Durham had slumped to 103-9.
The Durham attack made a positive start with Rushworth claiming the first wicket in the second over and two wickets for Shahzad reducing the hosts to 66-3.
The fourth wicket fell thanks to Coetzer and Richardson combining to secure a run out and with Shahzad picking up another two victims and the university side 80-6 it did look like there was potential for Durham to defend their total.
Unfortunately the lower order batsmen held on and Durham lost by 4 wickets.
Second XI coach Jon Lewis said, “We fought really hard with the ball and at one stage looked like we might make our total enough but ultimately we came up short. If we had managed to get up to 160 we would have been well in the game. We showed a lack of application, clarity in thought and accuracy in execution today.”
