Durham head coach Jon Lewis is backing the same 13-man squad to deliver a response in tomorrow’s Royal London One-Day Cup match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford (11am start).
The Club’s 50-over campaign got off to a disappointing start against Yorkshire Vikings yesterday as Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s 164 proved the base of a 142-run defeat.
Matthew Potts’ first List A game yielded three wickets & a resolute 30 with the bat while Michael Richardson top-scored with 43.
But despite the nature of the defeat, Lewis is keen for the same squad to make amends in Manchester tomorrow.
“It’s important not to overreact but it wasn’t a good enough performance,” Lewis said after Friday’s defeat.
“There are areas that need to be better, no doubt about it, but small improvements can make a big difference to the outcome of the game.
“So there’s no need to overreact but there’s plenty for us to talk about before we get started in Manchester.
The squad is again without Chris Rushworth, but the fast bowler will step up his recovery from a groin injury by playing for Chester-le-Street in the North East Premier League match at Sacriston today.
Squad vs Lancashire (20 May)
Last Time Out
Durham’s outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Royal London One-Day cup fell with defeat to Lancashire at Emirates Riverside.
The one point eventual winners Notts Outlaws gained from a washout in Northampton ended Lancashire’s hopes, too, after they ran out comfortable winners through Dane Vilas’s century.
With plenty of top order contributions & fifty from opener Alex Davies, the South African hit 13 boundaries in his 88- ball knock to set Durham a target of 305.
But early wickets ensured the chase never really ignited, despite 58 from Michael Richardson at number three, capping an impressive North Group campaign for him, & 43 from Stuart Poynter lower down the order.
