Durham Second XI got their ECB 2XI T20 campaign off to a successful start enjoying two victories over Leicestershire 2nd XI at Seat Unique Riverside with Trevaskis hitting back-to-back half-centuries and Gibson claiming six wickets.
In the opening encounter The Foxes won the toss and elected to bat in Chester-Le-Street. Nick Welch opened the batting for the visitors and top scored with 79 as Leicestershire finished with a respectable 172 for seven.
Ollie Gibson took three wickets whilst Liam Trevaskis, Brandon Glover and Nathan Sowter all claimed one apiece. Trevaskis claimed particularly economical figures with 1/14 from four overs.
In reply, Durham lost Ross Whitfield first ball to Michael Finan but responded with a 75-run partnership between Ben McKinney and Jonny Bushnell. McKinney made Durham’s joint top-score of 54, featuring three fours and four sixes before he was dismissed by Aaron Lilley.
Bushnell was then joined by Trevaskis at 75 for two. The latter’s knock assisted Durham’s route to their first victory of the day as he made an unbeaten 54, overseeing Durham to conclude on 173 for five with one over remaining to achieve a five-wicket victory.
Leicestershire once again won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping for an improved result. The away side struggled more the second time around as they could only conjure 143 runs; they were bowled out after 19.4 overs.
The batting side only had three double figure scorers with Harry Swindells making 76, Finan scoring 41 and Welch getting 15. Ollie Gibson claimed three wickets again; Nathan Sowter and Trevaskis both span their way to two wickets each, with and Mitchell Killeen grabbed the wicket of Finan to end the innings.
In Durham’s response, McKinney was the first to depart this time, for just three. Bushnell and the incoming Harry Crawshaw formed a steady partnership of 32 before Trevaskis came to the crease.
Trevaskis made 56 not out to take Durham to a six-wicket victory on this occasion, striking four fours and sixes apiece. Luke Doneathy (20) and Crawshaw (32) supplied some support but it was Tom Mackintosh who batted with Trevaskis until victory with their final stand being worth 43.
