Markram reaches world Top 10

Aiden Markram has warmed up for his four game spell at Emirates Riverside by moving into the world’s Top 10 Test batsmen in the ICC Test rankings.

The South African opener has slotted in at number nine in the new standings after topping the run-scorers in the 3-1 series win over Australia.

It is a movement of six places from 15th for Markram, who is one place behind compatriot Dean Elgar & three below South Africa legend AB De Villiers.

Markram’s position was boosted off the back of 152 in the fourth & final match, a new Test record for the right-hander & his fourth century in just 12 Test innings.

It capped a memorable series for the new man, who began by equalling his previous best of 143 in the first Test at Durban. He finished with 480 runs across his eight innings.

His Test record is now exactly 1,000 runs in ten matches, making him the quickest to reach the four figure milestone for South Africa (by matches), beating Graeme Smith who got there in 12 matches.

Markram is due to arrive at the Club late next week ahead of his anticipated involvement in the opening Specsavers County Championship match against Kent at Emirates Riverside.
