McCarthy returns for visit to Vikings

Barry McCarthy has been included in a 13-man squad for the NatWest T20 Blast encounter with the Yorkshire Vikings (6:30pm start).

The 23-year-old flies back from a successful stint with the Irish national side this morning and is available for tonight’s match at Headingley.

McCarthy has taken ten wickets across four matches against Afghanistan, including a One-Day International best of 4/59 in the first game as the series was drawn 2-2.

Also added to the squad is Jack Burnham after scoring 52 on the final day of yesterday’s thriller with Lancashire.

Calum MacLeod, fresh from Monday’s quickfire century for the 2nd XI, could also be in line for an appearance as Durham aim for the quarter-finals.

Durham Jets currently lie in fourth place, level on points with the Worcestershire Rapids having played two more games.

But a number of teams are vying for one of the top four spots; not least the Vikings, who are fighting hard despite being second from bottom.

A win would take them level on points with the Jets with two games each to play.

Squad vs Yorkshire Vikings (20 July): Mark Stoneman (c), Phil Mustard (wk), Gordon Muchall, Jack Burnham, Calum MacLeod, Keaton Jennings, Michael Richardson, Paul Coughlin, Ryan Pringle, Scott Borthwick, Chris Rushworth, Barry McCarthy
