Words from Ryan Campbell
Against Northumberland on Sunday, we will pick quite a young team, and we are going to give some of the senior guys who played on Friday night some time off.
We expect to go out and win this competition, yes, we have lost a heap of players to the Hundred and people can moan about that or you can embrace it. This now gives us a chance to play all of our youngsters; Ben McKinney will play, Daniel Hogg will play during that tournament, Haydon Mustard will get an opportunity, there could even be a 16-year-old kid called James Minto popping up, so as Head Coach that is exciting for me. Our senior players are going to have to play well, but I know Alex [Lees] is really excited to play with the youngsters and lead them hopefully to more finals.
Our young lads need opportunities, and they need to see a pathway, we try and make sure all our coaches are going to the Second team games, Will Gidman does a fantastic job, but it is important that I get down there and I know the schedule is a bit busy at times. I love watching our youngsters playing, but we do have some work to do with them, that is the honest truth, our younger players need to find a way – they haven’t been great white ball players in the past, and we need to keep developing players. These youngsters will be given every opportunity to be successful at Durham and that continues week against Northumberland.
