Mike Smith appointed Chairman of Durham Cricket Board

Durham Cricket Board is delighted to announce Mike Smith as the new Chairman.

Mike Smith will succeed Bob Jackson MBE, who announced his retirement after 51 years of service to recreational cricket administration in Durham.

Mike Smith has been the Finance Director at Durham Cricket Board for 8 years, having been appointed to the Board of Directors in November 2013.

Involved in recreational cricket as the Chairman of Sunderland Cricket Club, Mike is also a director at Durham Cricket C.I.C.

Mike will officially commence his new role as Durham Cricket Board Chairman on Wednesday 1st December 2021.

Mike Smith said: “It’s a privilege to be able to continue the great work and legacy left by Bob.

“There’s a lot going on in the world of cricket locally and nationally and I look forward to working with all of our people, clubs and stakeholders to further enhance the standing of Durham in the game and to ensure we make the most of all the great assets at our disposal.

“We are a county that values people of all abilities across all aspects of the game, all levels of talent, community and inclusive engagement – those things will be uppermost in our plans for the years ahead.”

Bob Jackson said: “I am delighted with Mike’s appointment, and I know he will lead the Board and the game through strong partnerships with both Durham Cricket and the ECB.

“Mike has been outstanding as the Board’s Financial Director for many years and his work ethic and dedication to the game will support a strong future for cricket in Durham.

“He is well known to most of the clubs in the county and will be an excellent leader of our game.”
