Mustard to leave after 16 years with Durham

Following discussions, Durham County Cricket Club and Phil Mustard have agreed that Phil will leave the club at the end of the 2016 season.

The 33-year-old has been at Durham since 2000 and has played a huge part in the club’s success, winning a host of Championship and One-Day titles. He has captained the team in all formats and made more Twenty20 appearances than anyone in the club’s history, recently becoming the first player to score 3,000 domestic T20 runs for one club.

Durham CCC Chief Executive, David Harker, said: “Phil has been a fantastic servant during his 16 years at the club. He embodies competitive spirit, loyalty and skill and will be greatly missed by everyone at Durham”.

Top run scorer at Durham in T20 this season, Phil said, “I have achieved great success with the team at Durham winning the Championship 3 times, and the One-Day competition twice. I’ve been part of Durham’s most successful years and I wish them many more in the future. However it is the right time for me to take up a new challenge in my career with a different club.”

2016 is Phil’s Benefit Year and fans will be able to see him in what has been billed as ‘The Colonel’s Last Stand’ as he plays what may be his final Durham T20 at The Riverside on July 29th.
