National Youth Orchestra to play at Emirates Durham

The musicians will play a fifteen minute set during the lunch break on day one (Wed 20 April) of Durham CCC’s LV= County Championship fixture against Sussex CCC before providing a fanfare for the players return to the field for the afternoon session.

The National Youth Orchestra is resident in Durham for the fortnight leading up to its concert at The Sage when over 60 young singers from across the North East will join them onstage. Tickets are only £5 to £15 (and all seats are only £5 for under 25s). With 165 players and the first ever performance at The Sage of Mahler’s epic Symphony No.10, their concert promises an exhilarating start to the Bank Holiday Easter Weekend.

Durham CCC Marketing Manager, Anna Skelton, said, “We’re so pleased that the National Youth Orchestra will be playing at Emirates Durham this week – their presence will definitely add a real sense of occasion to our first game of the season, we’re incredibly lucky to have such a talented group of musicians to entertain us.”

National Youth Orchestra Director of Communications, James Murphy, said “We love coming to Durham every year. We always get such a fantastic welcome. Each time we come, we’re keen to meet more people from the local area and give them the chance to be inspired by their national team who, in turn, deserve the same pride and admiration we offer our sporting teams. It’s a thrill to be invited to play at Emirates Durham; if it had a roof, these fantastically talented young brass players would certainly be raising it!”
