Neil Wagner joins Durham for County Championship and One Day Cup

Durham Cricket are pleased to announce New Zealand fast bowler Neil Wagner will join the Club for the final stages of the 2024 season.

The left-arm seamer will be available for Durham’s final 5 Vitality County Championship matches and will also be available for selection in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

An experienced seamer on the international and domestic circuits, Wagner recently retired internationally for the Black Caps having taken 260 wickets from 64 Tests at a strike rate of 52.7.

With over 200 first-class games under his belt, Wagner has claimed 821 first-class wickets and will further strengthen the Durham seam attack going into the final months of the season.

He has been a regular on the English County circuit, with spells at Northamptonshire, Lancashire, Essex and most recently Somerset.

Also available for selection in Durham’s Metro Bank One Day cup campaign, Wagner has picked up 176 List A wickets with three 5 wicket hauls in the 50 over format.

Neil Wagner said: “I am really looking forward to this opportunity and grateful for the chance to represent this club!

“I look forward to my time there and hopefully add to the success of the team and club and build on the foundation that’s been set!

“Hopefully my experience can help add to that! I can’t wait to meet everyone and get into it!”

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “We are delighted to have secured the signing of Neil Wagner for the remainder of the season.

“To be able to recruit a player with international experience is huge for us.

“His left arm pace will complement our bowling attack immensely and with over 800 first-class wickets to his name, we believe he is a quality signing who will only add a further competitive edge to our team.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the Club shortly for the One Day Cup and County Championship.”
