Despite a real effort by Mitchell Claydon and Graham Onions on day four of Durham’s LV= County Championship clash against Notts, the visitors claimed the win at Emirates Durham before lunch.
There was seven minutes of play early on before rain brought proceedings to a brief halt, however within half an hour the players were back out in the field .
Both Mitchell Claydon and Graham Onions struck successive boundaries and batted confidently to pass the fifty run partnership mark.
Claydon went on to beat his previous highest first class score of 40 after recording his debut first class fifty off 51 deliveries, which included eight fours.
It was Samit Patel who claimed the final Durham scalp, that of Claydon, who was caught at mid on by Luke Fletcher on 55, giving Notts victory by 114 runs.
At the close of play Durham captain Phil Mustard said, “When we came in this morning we knew we were up against it, when you look back at the last few days it has been a poor performance with the bat. We got out with some really poor shots but also to some really good bowling. They put us under pressure in both innings and we just couldn’t match them.
“It’s still early days, we’re just getting into the season, we know we can’t just rock up and win, we have to battle hard. We have to step up our game.”
