He led from the front and was the first to reach fifty, off 42 balls, including 12 boundaries. He was dismissed for 51, with Durham 105-1, bringing Keaton Jennings, the South African U19 captain here for a trial, in to join Ben Raine.
Durham were 135-2 after Raine was given out, just after reaching fifty. Ben Harmison and Jennings continued until lunch, where the side were 144-2 and both went on to pass the fifty mark after the break.
Harmison was stumped on 84 on the stroke of tea, with Durham 311-3 and Jennings 99*.
Two further wickets fell before Durham declared on 403-6 with 45 minutes play remaining, Clark out lbw and Jennings out on 132.
Chris Rushworth picked up the only wicket Durham claimed before the close and after some good bowling a second wicket would have been just reward, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Notts hung on in the morning session of day two but as their total reached 155 Mark Wood struck, and shortly after, Ben Harmison also claimed a wicket.
At lunch on day two Notts were 201-3.
Their fourth wicket fell thanks to a brilliant catch from Ben Harmison off Ryan Buckley, which saw Notts slip to 220-4. Buckley picked up a second wicket after the opposition had added another 60 to the total and Jonny Killeen picked up the sixth wicket.
Notts declared on 437 – 7 after Jamie Harrison ended the seventh wicket’s 150 partnership.
The hosts picked up two early wickets in the second over, with Coyne and Coetzer dimissed within three deliveries. The Notts keeper claimed two catches, with Clark and Raine both dismissed before the Durham total passed 17.
At the close of play Durham were 73-4 with a lead of 25, Jennings 26* and Harmison 27*.
