Durham Seconds opening ECB Championship match of the season ended a draw, as both captains shook hands after bad light took the players off the pitch.
Starting the final day on 145/4, Durham lost two wickets in the second over of the day as Eshun Kalley picked up two in two balls.
Michael Jones was dismissed LBW for 14, which shortly followed when Matthew Potts was bowled for 0, falling to add to his impressive first innings score.
With Durham 149/6, and a slim lead, Liam Trevaskis and Tom Mackintosh came together, needing a partnership to give Durham something to defend.
Mackintosh who was involved in an 162 run partnership in the first innings, came to the party in the second innings too, as him and Trevaskis put on 142 for the seventh wicket, as Durham passed 200.
Trevaskis was dismissed by Jamal Richards, LBW for 77 with 11 fours and one six. Richard’s dismissal of Trevaskis, saw Coughlin and Gibson depart shortly after, with Mackintosh also being pinned LBW for 60, the third of Richards victims.
Durham being bowled out for 297, setting Essex 233 to win.
Potts struck early, dismissing Essex captain Max Pepper LBW for 4, before bad light took the players off with the hosts requiring 197 to win, before play was called and the match ended a draw.
Day 3: Essex 391/9 (J Rymell 91, RJ Das 63, ASS Nijjar 55; MJ Potts 3-59, JOI Campbell 2/69) Durham 145/4 (leading by 79); G Clark 55, SJD Bell 51)
Aron Nijjar and Joe MacGregor offered some resistance on Day 3 at Billericay as Essex declared on 391/9.
Durham struck in the early stages as Sean Dickson caught Josh Rymell for 91, but Nijjar (55) and MacGregor (46) led Essex to almost 400.
Durham got off to a positive start in reply, with a first wicket stand of 108 from Graham Clark and Sol Bell. Both batsman reached fifties, Clark 55 with four fours and Sol Bell 51 with 10 fours.
However, both fell after reaching fifty, as Jack Plom picked up three wickets.
Once both Clark and Bell fell, Plom had Sean Dickson and Jonny Bushnell back to the pavilion, as Durham were reduced to 143/4.
Michael Jones* (14) and Liam Trevaskis* (2) remain unbeaten overnight as bad light once again stopped play for the second day running. Durham lead Essex by 79 runs with six wickets remaining going into the final day tomorrow.

Durham struck early when Matthew Potts had Will Buttleman caught for nine, with Oli Gibson the next to strike dismissing Michael Pepper for 36.
Seven more runs were added when Paul Coughlin pinned experienced Essex cricketer Varun Chopra for 4.
An 122 run partnership from Josh Rymell and Robin Das led Essex to 231/5, before Jack Campbell broke the partnership as Das was caught behind for 63.
Bad light stopped play after 82 overs on Day 2, with Rymell unbeaten on 91 and Aron Nijjar 19*.
Matthew Potts was the pick of the Durham bowlers with 2/48, while Campbell, Coughlin and Gibson all struck.

A ninth wicket stand of 162 between Matthew Potts and Tom Mackintosh guided Durham to 325 against Essex in their opening ECB 2XI Championship match at Billericay.
Essex were on top in the early stages of the game, as Matt Quinn struck quickly to dismiss both the Durham openers, the visitors being reduced to 2/10.
Michael Jones proved his resilience batting for 191 minutes and facing 127 balls, but fell one short of his half century, being bowled by Shane Snater for 49.
Alex Thomson added 42, batting for the first time in a Durham shirt before being caught by Feroze Khushi off the bowling of Darren Ironside.
Matthew Potts and Tom Mackintosh steadied the ship, guiding Durham past 300, as they shared a partnership of 162.
The pair came together with Durham at 157/8, Potts leading the way with 92 from 124 balls hitting ten fours and two sixes in the process. Mackintosh contributed throughout, with 59 from 119 balls hitting six fours along the way.
Potts fell eight runs shy of his century, as Santer picked up his third wicket (3/61), Mackintosh falling soon after as he was caught behind for 59, Durham being bowled out for 325.
