Potts pens new three-year deal

Matthew Potts has signed a three-year contract with Durham County Cricket Club that will keep him at Emirates Riverside until the end of the 2020 season.

The Durham Academy graduate, who made his debut for the club last year, has shown outstanding promise since breaking into the first team this season and his performances also led to an international under-19 call-up.

“I’m delighted to have signed a professional contract and grateful that Durham have given me the opportunity to play for my home club,” said Sunderland-born, Potts.

“I believe this is the right place for me to develop and further my career and it’s a great confidence boost that the coaching staff have put their faith in me.

“Hopefully, I can continue to develop, take wickets and help Durham challenge for trophies in the future.”

The sought-after all-rounder made his Specsavers County Championship debut against Kent & instantly impressed, taking one wicket & almost sealing a dramatic final over victory.

He has since taken a further ten first-class wickets with a best of 3/48 in the home win over Glamorgan in June.

The right-arm seam bowler managed four wickets wearing England colours in his maiden ‘Test’ match against India last month.

“It’s brilliant to see another Academy product earn a professional deal and Matty is someone who will play a big part in Durham’s future success,” said Head Coach, Jon Lewis.

“He has massive potential, something that has already been recognised by England and we’re delighted that he has signed a long-term contract.

“It’s good for the club that we have such promising young talent rising through the ranks.”
