Stuart Poynter has joined Durham teammate and fellow countryman Barry McCarthy in the Ireland squad for the Desert T20 tournament in the UAE.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has been called up as an injury replacement ahead of the T20 tournament for emerging nations.
He joined the Ireland squad ahead of today’s opening game with Afghanistan after injuries to Andrew Balbirnie and Stuart Thompson.
Poynter’s selection is subject to approval by the Event Technical Committee.
McCarthy was included in the original squad and could feature in the opener, which kicks off at 3pm UK time.
Ireland are in Group A alongside their opening opponents, Namibia & the UAE. The tournament starts in Abu Dhabi before moving on to Dubai for the final two days of competition, which runs between 14-20 January.
