Stuart Poynter officially became a Test cricketer this morning (Friday 15 March) after being named in Ireland’s XI to face Afghanistan.

The Durham man was handed the gloves for Ireland’s second Test – & first away from home – in Dehra Dun, India.

Poynter was one of five Test debutants named in the XI following on from his appearances in the T20 & ODI series against the same side.

It is his 47th international appearance & 37th first-class match. His first-class high score, 170, came in Durham’s draw against Derbyshire in the Specsavers County Championship last year.
