Durham Academy Head Coach John Windows is expecting a “tough test” ahead of tomorrow’s, 6th June, North Yorkshire South Durham (NYSD) MacMillan Cup Semi-Final at Acklam Park when Durham Academy take on Middlesbrough.
Window’s side have had a successful start to their T20 campaign in all competitions this season and will be looking to make this year’s final at their first time of asking.
The side were recently victorious over Seaton Carew in their quarter-final tie, chasing down 122 to win by 5 wickets with one over to spare at Hornby Park.
Windows said: “It has been great for the boys to play in this year’s MacMillan Cup alongside the Academy midweek fixtures we have been playing.
“The competition is a real good standard of cricket playing against top quality local league cricketers, so this is a test for the lads.
“The NYSD has a high standard of cricket, with some excellent grounds so this is a fabulous opportunity for the Academy to continue their development over a limited overs format.
“I would say we have been a bit lucky to get this far in the tournament, so a tough test is expected against Middlesbrough.
“A few of the regular Academy players have been called up to the second team so the lads coming in will have to step up and make their mark.”
Alongside the NYSD competition, Durham Academy also compete in the North East Premier League T20 and the Protech Durham Senior League Trophy, John adding: “We take each game as it comes, I haven’t set the boys any challenges other than to field well and do their specific jobs well.
“Every game sets a different challenge, such as ground size, types of wickets and the opponent you are playing, but thinking on your feet and planning how to win a match is key.
“We have to be grateful to the league for inviting us into the competition and having the chance to compete in the NYSD, I am very much looking forward to Thursday’s fixture.”
The second semi-final on Thursday evening is at Billingham Synthonia vs Great Ayton.
