Rain ruins Derbyshire clash after Richardson runs

Match abandoned: Durham (194/2; Richardson 83*, Jennings 79*; 1 point) vs Derbyshire (1 point)

Michael Richardson & Keaton Jennings gave Durham an excellent platform before rain wiped out the rest of the Royal London Cup tie at home to Derbyshire.

After two delays, it had been announced Derbyshire’s target under Duckworth/Lewis would be 243 in 34 overs.

Durham were 84/1 after 16 overs when a 75-minute rain break reduced the contest to 43 overs a side.

On the resumption the second-wicket pair took their stand to 122 before Jennings fell for 79, made off 72 balls, when he went down the pitch and was stumped after missing a Jeevan Mendis googly.

Jennings had looked in excellent touch, striking a number of cover drives and bringing up his fifty from 49 balls.

Richardson had gone well past his previous one-day best of 64, made in this competition against Nottinghamshire last year, and looked on course for a century when the rain returned with his score on 83.

It was a deeply frustrating start ahead of the next two games at Edgbaston and Headingley.
