Rain saves Seconds in Warwickshire clash

Result: Durham 2nd XI (271 & 63/4) drew with Warwickshire 2nd XI (447/9d; Lamb 164, Thomson 95; Onions 4/65)

Scorecard

An entirely washed out Day Three saved Durham Seconds from defeat against Warwickshire at South North CC.

The visitors decimated Durham to 63/4 at the end of the second day after forcing the follow-on when Neil Killeen’s men were bowled out 176 shy of their first innings total.

But the rain intervened with Gareth Harte & Adam Hickey both unbeaten at the crease & no further play was possible, rendering the match drawn.

Warwickshire elected to bat after winning the toss & racked up a huge 447/9d thanks to Matthew Lamb’s 164.

Chris Woakes, playing as a batsman-only, was bowled for 19 but a mammoth partnership of 155 between Lamb & Alex Mellor put the visitors firmly in control.

Two quick wickets for George Harding pulled things back before another stand with Alex Thomson saw the visitors reach 353/5.

Lamb fell to Graham Onions, the second of four wickets as the veteran paceman struck twice towards the end of the innings before Chris McBride has Thomson trapped LBW for 95.

Each of Durham’s top seven made double figures but no partnership reached over fifty as regular wickets hampered the reply.

Hickey made 64 while Josh Coughlin matched the score from number seven but the next highest score came from Scott Steel’s 24.

Onions added a quickfire 21 at number 11 but Durham fell just shy of the follow-on target & soon found themselves in trouble during the second innings.

Aaron Thomason took three quick wickets, including opener Ross Greenwell second ball, and Steel fell before the close of play to leave Durham four down.
